Gladys Ogallo, the Chief Executive Officer of Virtual Human Resources, has been appointed to serve on the Board of Directors at Liberty Kenya Holdings.
The appointment which took effect on July 8 makes Ms. Ogallo the second woman to sit on the insurer’s board of directors with the other lady on the board being company secretary Caroline Kioni.
Ms. Ogallo joins the insurer at a time when the company is looking to increase the uptake of its insurance premiums in the country which dipped at the end of 2018. According to the Business Daily, revenue collected from the firm’s insurance premiums dropped to Ksh. 6.3 million from Ksh. 21.5 million in the period under review. The firm similarly registered a 9.8 percent drop in earnings in the year ended December 2018 to register a net profit of Ksh. 608 million down from Ksh. 667 million registered in a similar period in 2017.
Announcing the transition at the company, the firm vouched for Ms. Ogallo’s appointment to the insurer’s board of directors.
“We are honoured to welcome her as a member of our board,” the insurer in a company statement announcing the appointment.
The firm similarly underscored that Ms. Ogallo’s vast experience in insurance and banking will greatly aid the company in its quest to up its stake in the local insurance sector. Prior to her appointment, Ms. Ogallo served as a non-executive director on the Board of lender HF Group and insurance firm Pacis Insurance Company. She has also served as the Head of Training at Nairobi based internet service provider Africa Online.
