Independent media house Nation Media Group (NMG) has appointed Mr. Richard Oitu Tobiko to its Board of Directors.
NMG made the announcement via a gazette notice published in today’s (Tuesday) issue of the Business Daily and according to the company’s Group Secretary J.C Kinyua, Mr. Tobiko is competent enough to succeed in the position with the notice also pointing out that the appointment took effect on March 1, 2019.
“He (Mr. Tobiko) has over twenty years’ experience in financial management and accounting operations and has worked with several local, regional and global organizations in the manufacturing and service sectors,” Mr. Kinyua says in the gazette notice.
Prior to his appointment, Mr. Tobiko had served as the Finance and Strategy General Manager at KETRACO, the Centre Leader in charge of Sub Sahara Africa businesses hub at General Electric (GE) as well as the Financial Management Consultant at African Development Bank (AfD).
He has also worked at Aljazeera Media Network and at Rift Valley Railways where he was in charge of overseeing Kenya and Uganda operations as the group’s Financial Controller.
Mr. Tobiko holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Warwick UK, a Bachelor of Commerce-Accounting option- degree from the University of Nairobi. He is also a Certified Public Accountant – CPA (K).
The new NMG board member is currently pursuing an Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Strathmore Business School.
In an unrelated event, asset chartering firm Vehicle and Equipment Leasing Limited (Vaell) has appointed Ms. Bertha Mvati as its General Manager (GM) for Kenya; an appointment that came into effect on March 4, 2019.
According to the firm, Ms. Mvati will replace Paul Njeru who has been at the helm of the family-owned company since 2006.
Prior to her appointment Ms. Mvati served as the Business Manager at Zohari Leasing Limited which is a subsidiary of Centum Investments.
