TECNO’s SPARK 3 smartphone has been named the smartphone brand of the year at this year’s edition of the Africa Information Technology and Telecoms Awards (AITTA) that was recently held in Lagos, Nigeria.
The award ceremony, now in its third edition, seeks to recognize innovation and excellence across the continent’s telecom and IT industry and this year’s event saw the Spark 3 smartphone recognized for its cutting edge features as well as the positive reception it has gained from consumers because of its pocket friendly prices. The Spark 3 smartphone was the only cellular device recognized by AITTA at this year’s award ceremony.
“The SPARK 3 smartphone has been engineered and upgraded by AI technology to advance its features and this has made it a hit among consumers in Africa, the Middle-East and Southeast Asia markets,” TECNO said in a statement after receiving the award.
Ever since it ventured into the African market in 2006 with its dual-SIM handsets, TECNO smartphones have become incredibly popular throughout Africa due to the exceptional value-for-money offering. Just five years after entering the African market, the smartphone manufacturer was the largest smartphone seller in the continent commanding a 53 per cent stake in all cellular devices sold in the region.
By 2018, TECNO’s mother company TRANSSION had sold approximately sold 124 million mobile phones globally. According to data from the International Data Corporation (IDC), TRANSSION ranks as the fourth largest global mobile phone brand with its best performing market being Africa.
