The days of having to ask your Bolt driver to change your end destination mid-journey so you can drop a friend off or run an errand will soon be a thing of the past following the launch of Bolt’s multiple destination feature.
The new feature makes it possible for riders to add extra stops to their trip and it will be rolled out gradually to the app’s users on Android and iOS this month.
“We are excited to make travel easier and convenient to our customers. We continue to offer quality services that suits the needs of our esteemed customers.” Bolt Country manager- Kenya Ola Akinnusi said in an official statement.
To access the new feature, riders are required to tap on the plus sign feature found on the address box to add up to three additional stops while enroute to their final destination. This will allow users the flexibility to, for instance, run errands during a journey. Riders will not pay extra for the stops but the app’s billing per minute feature will continue throughout the journey.
This launch of the feature by Bolt comes almost two years after its main rival, Uber, launched a similar feature on its app.
Bolt recently received Ksh. 5.6 billion funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support its research and development strategies. According to Bolt, the funds will go into improving safety, reliability and sustainability of the taxi hailing app’s services while maintaining the high efficiency of its operations.
Taxify rebranded to Bolt in March 2019 in a move aimed at underscoring the firm’s vision of capitalizing on the move to electric vehicles.
“The rebranding accentuates our belief that the future of transportation will be electric. Our new name ‘Bolt’ stands for fast, effortless movement — exactly what the experience of getting around in a city should be, be it by car, scooter or public transport,” Markus Villig, Bolt’s co-founder said then.
