Spanish delivery firm Glovo has partnered with retailer Naivas Supermarket to provide delivery services to customers in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.
The partnership will see Glovo deliver orders above Ksh.1,000 from Saturday 21 March at a flat rate delivery fee of Ksh.100 on deliveries above Ksh.1,000.
“As an on-demand delivery service, we can provide food, groceries as well as over the counter pharmacy products. We have an obligation to make these essential products as accessible as possible, especially for those citizens in need,” Priscilla Muhiu Glovo’s Regional head of Marketing said in a statement.
The Spanish delivery firm which launched in the Kenya market in January 2019 handles food, groceries, drinks and courier services and has signed similar partnerships with other supermarkets and fast-food restaurants including Artcaffe, Zucchini Greengrocers, Carrefour, and The Way Supermarkets among others.
Ever since entering the country in January 2019, the Spanish delivery firm has been on aggressive expansion.
In December 2019 Glovo announced plans to begin operations in the towns of Ngong and Rongai next year in an effort to expand its local footprint, reach and customer base.
When she spoke then, Ms. Muhiu revealed that the Spanish delivery firm will expand into the new markets after successfully upgrading the service offering of its delivery application.
“Distance is a major priority to us and we will do what we did with Kitengela by making the two areas to accessible, however, we first want to ensure that we have perfected where we are in operation first. What we want to do is focus more on user experience and introduce features that improve user experience such as M-PESA integration which we will work on in the coming year,” the Glovo Head of Marketing said then.
