Sasini PLC appoints new Managing Director

Sasini PLC on Thursday announced the appointment of Mr. Martin Ochieng, the former Managing Director at Security Group Africa (SGA), as its new Managing Director (MD).

According to the NSE listed firm, Ochieng will be taking over from long serving group financial controller Mr. Samuel Odalo, who has been serving as Sasini’s interim MD since January.

Mr. Ochieng will take up the new position effective March 1, 2019. In his first week in charge he will also have a meeting with shareholders during Sasini’s annual general meeting which is slated for March 8, 2019. Announcing the transition at the company, Sasini’s Board of Directors said in a statement:

“His career spans over twenty five years of experience in international trade and business management and leadership in industry lending global organisations.”

The Board of Directors similarly announced that Mr. Ochieng will serve as the lead in the firm’s diversification strategy into Macadamia and avocado farming.

Mr. Ochieng has held other senior leadership positions in both the public as well as the private sectors, including the Head of Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa at Pfizer, Head of Global Marketing at KWV International and Marketing Director for Tyco International in Africa and Middle East. He has also served as the Chief Executive Officer for Tyco Commercial Services.

Mr. Ochieng also boasts of having a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from United Kingdom based University Oxford Brookes.

Sasini PLC was founded in 1952; eleven years before Kenya gained independence. The company is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya and it is considered to be among the country’s top six producers of tea. Apart from producing tea and coffee, the group also develops dairy products production and processing, livestock breeding and horticulture activities. The firm is a subsidiary of the Sameer Group of companies which is also located in Nairobi.
