Silverstone Air Services has augmented its bid to establish itself as a major player in the local aviation industry by introducing a new route to Maasai Mara from Nairobi just two weeks after introducing direct flights to Eldoret from the capital.
According to a news report by the Business Daily, the daily return flights will be available from the capital twice a day- in the morning and afternoon, with tickets setting back consumers Ksh. 28,000. The new route will be operated by a Dash 8-300 aircraft which has a carrying capacity of 37 passengers and a Cessna Caravan that holds 12 passengers.
“We have launched daily flights from Nairobi to Maasai Mara. The first departure from Wilson Airport to Maasai Mara will be at 10:00 am with the plane scheduled to arrive at 10:45 am. The plane will then leave Maasai Mara at 11:15 am to arrive in Nairobi at noon,” Silverstone Air Sales Manager Patrick Oketch told the Business Daily.
“Another flight will depart Nairobi at 3:00 pm to arrive in Maasai Mara at 3.45 pm. It will then depart from Maasai Mara at 4:15 pm to arrive in Nairobi at 5:00 pm.”
The Business Daily similarly reports that the flights to Maasai Mara will be ending at local airstrips including Olkiambo, Keekorok Mara Serena and Kichwa Tembo.
Introducing two different routes within a two week time frame attests to the airline’s zealous expansion plan to establish itself in the local aviation market which is dominated by carriers such as Jambojet and Skyward Express.
Currently the carrier offers flights between the capital, Mombasa, Kisumu, Malindi, Ukunda, Lamu and Lodwar. The air service provider is also set to introduce direct flights to Garissa later this month in an effort to attract customers using the North Eastern route.
Apart from ferrying passengers between various destinations within the country, the carrier also provides Commercial Cargo Services, Private Charter Services, Evacuation, Humanitarian and Relief Services and Aircraft Leasing services.
