A noticeable drop has been chronicled in the average rates of domestic flights within the country following the end of the December festivities.
Jambojet customers travelling to Nairobi from Kisumu and vice versa will effective today part with Ksh. 3,500 for a single ticket down from Ksh. 14, 500 for a ticket over the same distance in the last week of December. Correspondingly, Fly540 flights from Nairobi to the lakeside town and conversely have been priced at Ksh. 5,770 per head.
In a report by the Business Daily, Jambojet Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Allan Kivaluka attributed the decrease in the prices of domestic flights to reduced demand.
“Every year, the demand for air travel goes down immediately after the first week of January — business travel picks up towards the third week of January hence fares go down based on demand,” the Business Daily quotes the Jambojet MD and CEO as saying.
Jambojet has also reduced the prices of flights from Nairobi to Mombasa with customers parting with Ksh.7,500 effective today down from Ksh. 11,500 charged in December. By tomorrow (Tuesday 8, 2019) the ticket prices will further drop to Ksh. 5,500.
The airline has also cut fares on its Eldoret route to Ksh. 4, 500 down from Ksh. 9,500 and Ksh. 8,500 charged on December 23 and December 24 respectively for a one way ticket from the capital.
It is estimated that the ticket prices will remain low in the days to come as travellers return to work after the December holidays.
