Home and appliances distributor Hotpoint Appliances has relocated its operations in Westlands and Industrial Area to a newly unveiled Ksh. 1.1 billion complex located at Sukari Industrial Estate, off Thika Road
The facility, according to the Business Daily, will act as the firm’s East Africa Headquarters. It will also play home to the firm’s distribution and service centre as well as the company’s duct fabricating workshop and brand experience zone.
According to Hotpoint Managing Director Shailesh R. Kanani, the new space, which is anticipated to serve Hotpoint’s operations in Tanzania and Rwanda, was introduced due to growing customer demand for Hotpoint products.
“This move is part of our long-term plans to have our own facility which has been designed in line with our requirements in terms of logistics, service and office space. The company settled on this location because it also accords us easy access to various parts of Nairobi through the Thika Highway and Northern Bypass making it more efficient to make deliveries,” Mr. Kanani said in a statement according to the Business Daily.
The move by Hotpoint to relocate to Thika Road mirrors that of firms such as Toyota which have set up along the route in an effort to expand their local footprint further underscoring the importance of the prime highway to developers. In July, Toyota announced that it had opened its first garage on Thika Road in a partnership deal with Toyotsu Auto Mart Kenya.
The new garage is part of the automaker’s plan to expand its presence in the country with plans to open up to 15 garages throughout the country in the next two to three years. The garage will provide spare parts, repair and maintenance as the automaker plans reversal of a trend that has most car owners seeking the aforementioned services from non-Toyota affiliated garages in the city.
