Occidental Insurance Company Limited has announced the appointment of its independent director Mr. Mike Eldon, as the new chairman of the corporation.
According to Occidental Insurance, in a gazette notice, Mr. Eldon will be taking over from Mr. Jimnah Mbaru who has been at the helm of the organization since October 2015. Mr. Mbaru will however remain in the firm’s Board as a director.
“The Board of Directors of Occidental Insurance Company Limited wishes to announce the election by unanimous vote of Mr. Mike Eldon as the new chairman of the company, with effect from January 1, 2019,” the gazette notice reads in part.
The firm similarly stated that Mr. Eldon was well versed in handling the highly demanding job because of his vast experience working in different sectors.
“Mike Eldon is the Founder-Chairman and Lead Facilitator of the DEPOT (The Dan Eldon Place of Tomorrow), which provides consultancy services in leadership strategy, change management and performance management. His earlier career was in the ICT sector in the UK and in Kenya since 1977. He was a pioneer in the development of the use of IT in East Africa and was deeply involved with the development of Kenya’s first national ICT policy,” the gazette notice reads.
Mr. Eldon, who currently chairs the council of KCA University, has held other senior leadership positions in both the public as well as the private sector. His varied career included stints at the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) where he served as the chairman of KIM’s council and a Director role at both Davis and Shirtliff and at the African Institute for policy development (AFIDEP).
He was also a Founder Director and later Vice – Chairman of KEPSA, where he is now on the advisory council.
Mr. Eldon is also an Economics graduate of the University College London and a Sloan Masters Fellow of the London Business School.
