Eyewear dealer Optica has opened an outlet in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County as part of the firm’s plans to further expand its services across the country and to offer its customers authentic products and qualified optometrist services in an industry teeming with fakes.

The new outlet brings its total branch count to 37 with the eye-care firm having opened six other branches across the country in the course of this year and last year. Some of those branches were opened in Machakos, Kiambu and Nairobi at the Westgate Mall. Last year, Optica opened branches in Eldoret, Meru, and Thika with the aim of growing its customer base in Western Kenya and Central regions respectively.

According to a news article by the Business Daily, Optica’s Head of Retail Wazeem Mohamed said the shop would help Optica’s qualified optometrist offer correct eye diagnosis and advice to customers.

“It is unfortunate that today we have many optical shops operating in this region but without a qualified optometrist. Our effort is to extend more options to the public to receive proper eye care services,” he said during the launch as quoted by the Business Daily.

The eye-care firm that stocks a range of frames for both eyeglasses and sunglasses under array of international brands launched their own eyewear brand dubbed Oxygene nine years ago. Four years ago it introduced another of its own brands, Cactus, to build on the success of the first innovation.

The just launched outlet in Ongata Rongai will be located at the Bata Building, opposite Tuskys Main supermarket along Magadi Road.

Optica is a family-owned business that was started in 1959 with a vision to become Africa’s leading provider of comprehensive optical care.
